Blackjack rules
Blackjack rules vary by table and provider. This guide covers common concepts for education only; it does not offer a winning system.
The aim
In standard blackjack, players aim to finish with a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer without going over 21. Number cards count at face value, face cards usually count as 10, and an ace can generally count as 1 or 11 depending on the hand.
Common player actions
After initial cards are dealt, common actions include hit (take another card), stand (take no more cards), double down (increase the stake under table rules and take one further card) and split (separate a pair into two hands where permitted). Rules for these actions vary.
Know the table rules
Dealer rules, number of decks, payout terms and side bets can affect the game’s mathematics. Read the displayed rules before participating. No strategy eliminates the house edge, and past hands do not predict the next hand.
